Building the Future from Fundamentals.
That's EvoOpticks.
"EvoOpticks
is unique. It is a purely opportunistic
configuration of the best in
the optics industry with a
focus on bringing the best that optical
science has to
offer to the community at large.”

EvoOpticks is a new kind of company.
Who We Are
EvoOpticks is a new kind of company designed to
create the best
team of optics engineers in direct response to a
customer’s needs.
Prof. Jannick P. Rolland has created this entity as a spin off
industrial component of the ODALabs
(www.odalab-spectrum.org)
as a vehicle for combining advances in
technology with advances
in manufacturing, test, and assembly
specifically to create advanced
prototypes that will lead to new
customer-inspired and owned
products that leverage optics as a
technology.
Philosophy
EvoOpticks is based on an opportunistic philosophy. It is only
activated in response to needs from customers who require a small
team
of the best in field to provide either simulation or prototype
hardware, or in rare cases both, which clearly demonstrates the
potential for any of a myriad of ideas that emerge from recognizing
the
potential of optics and optics technology.
What We Do
While broadly based, EvoOpticks currently specializes in technologies
that incorporate and take advantage of the latest in freeform optical
surface technology, virtual and augmented reality displays, and Optical
Coherence Technology (OCT) applications. The partners that are
combined to create a niche team of application specialists are drawn
from over 20 years of experience in the field optics and optical
engineering
that spans literally thousands of projects across the
technology space.
EvoOpticks is the perfect solution
for companies looking to prototype, or
simulate the performance of a new optics technology-based concept.
Industrial Partners
For companies looking to prototype, or, simulate the performance of a
new optics technology-based concept that requires a team that is not
merely competent, but, in fact excels in optics engineering – contact
EvoOpticks to learn what service they can supply, or, if there is a
better
avenue, a referral to the best team to move your program
forward.
Prof. Rolland is also available, via EvoOpticks, to research and act as
an expert researcher and potentially witness for those rare cases when
there is a dispute in relation to IP within the optics industry.
Company Leadership
The company leader, Prof. Jannick P. Rolland, is the Brian Thompson
Chair Professor of Optical Engineering at the Institute of Optics and a
co-appointed Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of
Rochester. Prior to this position, she was a Professor at CREOL, the
College of Optics and Photonics at the University of Central Florida
for
twelve years and developed the latest technology in OCT that
provides
simultaneously micron-class Axial and Lateral resolution in
combination
with her Gabor technology developments, and, the head of
the Vision
Group at the University of North Carolina before that, where
she was
one of the very first to conduct perception studies in augmented reality,
including the medical environment.
Jannick P. Rolland,
EvoOpticks Founder and President
Jannick Rolland is the Brian J. Thompson Professor of Optical Engineering
and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rochester.
She serves as Associate Director of the R.E. Hopkins Center for Optical
Design and Engineering. She directs the distributed Optical Diagnostics
and Application Laboratories (www.ODALab-spectrum.org). She earned a
Diploma from the Institut D’Optique in France in 1984, and MS (1985) and
Ph.D. (1990) degrees in Optical Science from the University of Arizona. After
about two years as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Computer
Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, focused on
learning vision and computer graphics while designing stereoscopic head-
worn displays for medical visualization, she headed the Vision Research
Group for Medical Displays (1992-1996). In 1996, she joined the College of
Optics and Photonics at the University of Central Florida (1996-2008) where
she founded the Optical Diagnostics and Applications Laboratory (ODALab).
Rolland served on the editorial board of the Journal Presence (MIT Press)
(1996-2006), and as Associate Editor of Optical Engineering (1999-2004).
She is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America and SPIE, a senior member
of IEEE, and a member of SID. Professor Rolland’s areas of expertise are in
the fields of optical aberrations, optical instrumentation, and system
engineering with an emphasis on Eyewear Displays and Biomedical Imaging.
